SPECIAL DETROIT SCREENING OF “LEMONADE”
A FILM ABOUT LIFE AFTER PINK SLIPS

OAK PARK, Mich. – Detroit area studios, RingSide Creative and Cola Creative will host a free Detroit screening of the film Lemonade at RingSide Creative’s Combermere Stage in Troy, MI on Thursday December 17, 2009. The film chronicles the post-layoff endeavors of former advertising professionals and tells the story about “what happens when people who were once paid to be creative in advertising are forced to be creative with their own lives.”

Lemonade will be presented by the film’s creator, Erik Proulx. Proulx also founded the web site Pleasefeedtheanimals.com, an online resource designed to help people find creative positions amidst the crunch. The crunch has been hugely significant for the Detroit region’s ad community. Already, we’ve lost 1,200 advertising related jobs in Michigan, since September 2008. And the pink slips seem to just keep coming – another 485 people will lose their jobs in January when BBDO’s Detroit office closes.

President and Creative Director of Cola Creative Todd Gilleland, contacted Erik Proulx to make him aware of what was going on in Detroit. “I really wanted to bring this film to Detroit in order to help lift the spirits of my friends in the local advertising community who have either been laid off, or who live with the constant fear that they will be next.” Proulx agreed to bring the film to Detroit, and Gilleland partnered with RingSide Creative to facilitate the screening and help bring some focus to our region.

“Our creative community has been hit exceptionally hard.” says RSC owner and CEO Doug Cheek. “When Todd spoke with us about the film, we saw it as an opportunity to support the many people who have lost their jobs by helping promote the film and showcase the great resource Erik’s built.”
